Book Recap: Madison has moved on from her life in Maple Grove in pursuit of her dream to become a food writer in New York, but when she receives a mysterious letter asking her to come back to save her childhood home, the Cinnamon Spice Inn, she puts her dreams on hold. The inn isn’t the only thing she left behind. The repairs the inn requires means they need the best contractor in town, who happens to be Madison’s ex-boyfriend, Zach. Let’s Talk About It…

When it comes to fall vibes, this book delivers on every level. The small town of Maple Grove is filled with charm, gossip, and festive activities that help you imagine walking down the streets yourself as they prepare for Halloween. As someone who grew up in a small town, I think the this book perfectly captures small town life, but in the best way.

Some of my favorite things about this book were Madison’s family, her friends (new and old), and getting to meet all the townsfolk. Madison’s family really seemed to care for her. While I didn’t agree with all of their choices, I do appreciate the intent behind them as they were always made out of love. The side characters were loveable and I can’t wait to get to know them better as the series goes on. It was evident early on that book two would be Liam’s book. This has been confirmed now and I can’t wait to read The Spiced Cocoa Café when it releases in October.

This wasn’t the best written series. I found that the miscommunication trope was repeated far too often for my taste, but this is one of my least favorite book tropes. Most of the main characters problems could have easily been solved if they had just spoken to one another which was frustrating at times, but I still enjoyed the book overall.

If you don’t mind the miscommunication trope and want a book filled with fall vibes, this is a quick and easy read that can get you into the autumn spirit.
