Thank you to Rebecca Ross, Saturday Books, and NetGalley for providing this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Book Recap: Matilda is a young god with simple magic. She’s a messenger. Her magic has her carrying letters through realms, including the mortal realm where there is a boy named Vincent who dreams of her. After meeting him once as a child, ten years pass before fate brings Matilda and Vincent together again, but this time their lives will be tested in ways neither one could have dreamed of.

Let’s Talk About It…

Wild Reverence is a prequel set 600 years before Divine Rivals, the first book in the Letters of Enchantment duology. Divine Rivals was a book that helped me fall back in love with reading. The romance was poetic and the story was engaging. I expected to have a similar experience while reading Wild Reverence, but that wasn’t the case…at least for the first three acts of the book. Considering this book has five acts, it took awhile to get to the type of dialog I love from Rebecca Ross.

The first three acts were very slow paced. There is a significant amount of world building, which was interesting as someone who read Divine Rivals, but not interesting enough to make me want to keep reading “one more chapter”. I also found it difficult to care about the main character as I struggled to relate to her. It took me over a week to get through this section of the book and I considered not finishing it, but I’m glad I continued.

The last two acts of the book were fast paced. By this point I was more invested in the characters, especially Vincent, and wanted to know how the story ended. It only took me a couple of days to finish the book once I started act four. The writing was more romantic and on par with the sweet and caring lines I fell in love with during Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows. Rebecca Ross knows who to write a romance that makes you believe that true love exists. The ending of the book had me in tears as it ties everything back to the original duology.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to someone who enjoyed the Letters of Enchantment duology.
