Let’s Talk About It…
I requested an Advance Reader Copy of this book because I was intrigued by its premise. A human woman suddenly finding herself throw into a magical world. Now, this has been done before, but this book has a twist. This human woman keeps getting glimpses of things from the past, and one of the supernatural beings who is escorting her seems to know her, not just from the few moments they have shared, but like they have a past.
I really enjoyed the magic system in this book. It plays on common fantasy magical systems such as auras, but with its own unique elements. The world building is interesting as this book switches between 4 different points of view. Each view gives you another piece of the puzzle to the mysteries of the story.
If I hadn’t been enjoying the book already, the book ending really threw me for a loop! I wasn’t expecting such a plot twist right at the end. I finished the book and immediately wanted more. I was invested in the characters and need to know what is going to happen next!
I dropped a star in my review because there were a few lines that were a bit too familiar and felt like they played off of popular BookTok books which wasn’t necessary since the book could stand on it’s own. I also found the book to be confusing at moments. While I do believe this was intentional, the confusion lasted a bit too long at times.
Overall, I was engaged with this book from start to finish and I am looking forward to seeing where the author takes these characters in book 2!
