Let’s Talk About It…
As a pharmacist, I requested an Advance Reader Copy of this book because I can’t turn down an opportunity for magic to meet medicine. Since Dilly is an aspiring surgeon and was looking for a way to resurrect the dead, I thought this would be a perfect fit to meet my bookish and professional interests.
I’ve always been intrigued by the fact that there are more aspects of the human body that we don’t know or fully understand than what we do know. This book plays into that perfectly, and adds a bit of classic horror to the mix. One of my favorite parts of starting a new chapter was to see what classic quote was going to appear at the top of the page. Not only did these quotes seem carefully selected to fit the chapter, but also allowed this new tale to blend into the gothic horror genre rather smoothly.
This was a quick read for me because at the end of every chapter, I found myself wanting to know what was going to happen next. Many of the characters weren’t likable, but I do believe that was part of the point. I also found the plot twist at the end to be a bit predictable, however I still found it to be a satisfying ending. This book releases in October which is the perfect time to dive into a gothic horror tale such as this one!
